To use Companion Mode in Google Meet, follow these steps for both laptops and mobile devices:

Laptop:

  1. Join a meeting either through a meeting invitation or by visiting g.co/companion in your browser.
  2. Choose "Use Companion mode" when prompted or find the option under "Other joining options."
  3. Your laptop audio will be muted by default to avoid feedback; however, you can unmute yourself to contribute verbally when necessary.
  4. With Companion Mode enabled, you can access meeting chat, polls, Q&A, and raise your hand to speak.
  5. To share your screen, click "Present now".
  6. To turn on your camera, click "Turn on camera," which will display your video feed to other participants.
  7. To exit Companion Mode, click "Leave call" at the bottom of the meeting window.

Mobile Devices (Android and iOS):

  1. Ensure you have the latest version of the Google Meet app installed.
  2. Join a meeting through the app or by visiting g.co/companion in your mobile browser.
  3. Tap "Use Companion mode" when prompted or find the option under "Other joining options."
  4. Your audio and microphone will be muted to avoid feedback.
  5. Use Companion Mode to access meeting chat, polls, Q&A, and raise your hand to speak.
  6. To share your screen, click "Present now."
  7. To turn on your camera, tap the camera icon.
  8. To exit Companion Mode, leave the meeting or tap "Leave call" at the bottom of the meeting window.

Remember that Companion Mode is designed for hybrid meetings, where some participants are in a meeting room and others are remote. It's recommended to use in-room audio and video hardware for the best meeting experience, while Companion Mode provides additional features and controls on a secondary device.
