AI design startup Recraft is building its own foundation model to ensure higher quality images than Stability Diffusion, which the company believes is limited in its capabilities. Recraft is the first-ever AI tool for generating and editing vector art, icons, 3D images, and illustrations within a brand's style guide. The company has raised $12 million to build its in-house foundation model.

The foundation model will use a pre-trained, deep-learning algorithm and have a different architecture that enables better anatomy, detail quality, and more complex text descriptions. Recraft's CEO, Veronika, who previously created CatBoost, one of the world's most popular machine learning frameworks, believes that AI is driving the future of the design industry and wants to grab the steering.

In the eight months since its launch, Recraft claims to have attracted over 300,000 users. By leveraging generative AI, the product creates layouts, fonts, colors, and illustrations.
